Backing for call to keep Rickards out

The Women's Refuge is backing Dick Hubbard's call for Clint Rickards not to be reinstated as the Auckland district police Commander.

Auckland's mayor says even though Mr Rickards has been cleared of indecent assault charges, the standard of behaviour he has shown is unacceptable.

Women's Refuge spokeswoman Heather Henare says women would have no confidence in him protecting their interests. She says the community is outraged that Rickards has been acquitted and at his continued support of convicted rapists Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton. Ms Henare says Rickards' behaviour is unacceptable and other police officers are copping flack for his actions. She says there are police officers doing a fantastic job at protecting New Zealanders, who have been tarred with the same brush as the trio.
