Release of Police conduct inquiry could create a stir

Prime Minister Helen Clark

The Prime Minister has hinted a soon-to-be released commission of inquiry into Police conduct may create a stir.

The investigation into police conduct has been underway since Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas first made rape allegations against police in 2004.

Last week, Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum were acquitted of sex charges in a different trial.

Helen Clark says it is clear Mr Rickards and other police officers abused their power in several situations.

She says Dame Margaret Bazley should release the report shortly.

The Police Complaints Authority has confirmed the inquiry should be made public within a few months.
