Police minister appalled at bogus recruiting poster

Police Minister Annette King says she is appalled by a poster suggesting a career with the police is a way to hear "great rape stories".

The poster has been put up in Wellington railway station.

It follows the acquittal last week of the suspended Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and convicted rapists Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum on 1980s sex charges.

Ms King says the poster is "ugly and vicious" and whoever is behind it is ignoring the fact the prosecutions against the three men were taken by police officers.

She says she understands that people are upset about the recent trials, but the poster attacks all police.

Ms King says the court cases have had an impact on police morale.

Police have condemned the poster. Superintendent Grant O'Fee says it is unhelpful when police are really focused on domestic violence and rape.
