Clint Rickards has asked for financial support from union

The suspended Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards is asking the union representing senior police officers to help fund his employment case.

Despite being cleared of sex charges, there has been debate over whether Mr Rickards should be allowed to continue as Auckland's top police officer.

There's been wide-ranging criticism of Clint Rickards, particularly due to his support for his co-defendants and convicted rapists Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton.

The police have said employment matters surrounding Mr Rickards could take sometime.

The Police Managers Guild says Mr Rickards has now asked it for financial assistance in the case.

Guild President, Inspector Rob Abbott says it has asked Mr Rickards for more information before making a decision on any financial help.
