A man who was paid
$4000 to investigate the wrongful imprisonment of three girls has been
charged with operating as a private investigator without a licence. The Court of Appeal
this week quashed the teenage girls' joint conviction for aggravated robbery. The three were accused
of the 1999 attack on a schoolgirl in Three Kings and spent seven months in
prison. The father of one of
the accused, Vini Kavi, paid a Samoan man he understood to be a private
investigator $4000 to look into the case. After little progress,
the man referred Mr Kavi to criminal lawyer Gary Gotlieb, who then engaged a
new private investigator. |
