Ellis conviction probe call ready soon
A petition requesting a
Royal Commission of Inquiry into the conviction of former Christchurch Civic
Childcare Centre worker Peter Ellis for child abuse is nearly ready.
Dunedin lawyer Judith
Ablett-Kerr, QC, said yesterday the petition would be delivered to
Governor-General Sir Michael Hardie Boys within 10 days. Meanwhile, Mrs
Ablett-Kerr is still pushing ahead with an appeal set for November. In June,
the Governor-General referred Ellis's case back to the Appeal Court. At the time, Mrs
Ablett-Kerr said the terms of the appeal were limited, and she would work on
getting them widened. She would not comment further yesterday.
