THE Peter Ellis case is
disturbing. Coney and Haden (October 24) have forceful and irreconcilable
opinions. What are we left with? Guilty or innocent? Was the conviction
sound? It is outrageous that discarded
police evidence could not be presented by the defence. In the search for
truth, one cannot simply hide findings that don't fit. Guilty or innocent, Ellis was the
scapegoat for a botched investigation and the victim of a poor-quality trial.
That, at least, is obvious. And we can't correct this? Words
fail me. |
