In a public meeting on Thursday 18th November, the Co-Leader of
the Green Party, Rod Donald, was questioned as to why he made a statement
before the last election about providing support for Peter Ellis, but that
after he got into power he did nothing.
In contrast members of Parliament such as John Banks (National), Phil
Goff (Labour), and Rana Waitai (Mauri Pacific) had all taken a more public
stance in support of Peter Ellis.
1. After
he became an MP, he was put under a lot of pressure by members of the
Alliance Party, not to take further action. 2.
His wife had been a member
of the management committee at the Creche at the time the allegations were
made against Peter. One of his
children was at the Creche. He did not want to be leading the crusade for justice for Peter
Ellis, because of the undue effect it may have had on his wife and child. 3.
He has never the less been
fully supportive of the efforts that others have made to achieve justice for
Peter Ellis. 4.
He has been responsible for
providing information to Members of Parliament such as Waitai about the case. 5.
He briefly attended the
recent appeal of Peter Ellis, and Peter's mother Lesley Ellis is fully understanding
of the position that Rod Donald has taken, and the reasons he has not been
more vocal. 6.
He fully supports the call
for a Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch Creche case. Brian |
