Convicted child sex offender Peter
Ellis is expected to continue his policy of not co-operating with the Parole
Board at a hearing next month. The hearing is intended to set the
conditions Ellis will live under after his release in February. He must be
released after serving two-thirds of his sentence. His counsel, Judith Ablett-Kerr,
QC, said last week that Ellis' case was due to go before the Parole Board on
December 3. Ellis had advised her that he didn't intend to appear before the
board. His stance was that the board
could only deal with him as a guilty person and therefore his attendance
would be meaningless, Mrs Ablett-Kerr said. Ellis, 40, has repeatedly turned
down the chance of being considered for early parole from prison, where he is
serving a 10-year sentence on charges relating to indecencies against
children at Last month, the Court of Appeal
dismissed his second appeal against conviction. He and his supporters are
hoping for a free pardon from the Governor-General or a royal commission of
inquiry. Ellis has consistently denied that
he is guilty. |
