Wellington: Convicted sex abuser Peter Ellis will refuse to sign any parole documents if they imply he was rightfully convicted, his lawyer said yesterday.

Ellis will be released from prison on February 2, having served the mandatory two-thirds of his sentence.

Ellis has maintained his innocence since being convicted in 1993 of numerous sex abuse charges against children in his care at the Christchurch Civic Crèche.

The Parole Board has indicated Ellis will be subject to special conditions upon his release. However, Ellis's lawyer, Judith Ablett-Kerr, QC, said Ellis had not and would not sign "any document that requires him to consent to any conditions that presume him to have been rightfully convicted".
