Parole Board sets tough terms for Ellis

Convicted child abuser Peter Ellis will have to live at a specified address for a year as part of conditions set by the Parole Board for his being freed from prison next February.

The board's terms also include that he not contact the victims or their families without the written consent of his probation officer, or do any paid or voluntary work without the officer's approval.

Ellis, 40, must be freed when he has served two-thirds of his 10-year sentence on February 2. He was jailed in 1993 after being found guilty of abusing children at Christchurch Civic Creche.

Ellis has maintained his innocence but appeals have failed to have his convictions quashed.

He is still seeking a royal commission of inquiry into his case and a pardon from the governor-general.

Ellis has said he will not sign parole documents if they imply he was properly convicted.
