Ellis outrage at silence over book
Peter Ellis amazed and outrage at silent response to a book about his case
Convicted child-abuser Peter Ellis says the silence surrounding a book about
his case is outrageous.
Lynley Hood's book, A City Possessed is the culmination of seven years of
research into Ellis' 1993 conviction for abusing children at the Christchurch
Civic Creche.
In it, she claims the prosecution evidence was fundamentally flawed.
Ellis has always maintained his innocence.
The book has just won the non-fiction medal at the Montana Book awards.
Peter Ellis says claims in it haven't been challenged by the Government or
the police.
He believes there now should be a Royal Commission of Inquiry into his case.
Mr Ellis isn't happy with the way Justice Minister Phil Goff has had his case
reviewed.
He say the people who did the review, were also involved in the original
prosecution.

Controversial book takes big prize at Montana Awards- book on Peter Ellis
case wins non-fiction category for author Lynley Hood
A controversial book has taken out one of the big prizes at this year's
Montana Book Awards in Auckland.
Dunedin author Lynley Hood's book A City
Possessed, on the Christchurch Civic Creche case, has won the Montana medal for
non-fiction.
The convener of the judging panel Witi Ihimaera describes it as a book which
cannot be ignored.
It also took out the coveted Reader's Choice Award.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was the winner of the Deutz Medal
for Fiction.
That went to first time author Craig Marriner for his novel Stonedogs.
The story of an underachieving teenager who becomes deeply involved with
drugs and gangs is praised for being subversive and crackling with energy.
