No help from Ellis for police
by Richard Trow
Peter Ellis does not trust police to conduct a fair inquiry into new claims
of child abuse and refuses to cooperate, his lawyer says.
Police said in July they wanted to talk to Ellis again. It is understood the
new allegations come from a person in their late teens who attended
Christchurch Civic Crèche while Ellis worked there more than a decade ago.
His lawyer, Judith Ablett Kerr, QC said Ellis did "not intend to
voluntarily participate in any interview process".
"Mr Ellis believes he has made it absolutely clear over a number of
years that he is innocent of any alleged sexual offending."
Ellis was sentenced to 10 years' jail in 1993. He was freed in 2000.
The Police Commissioner's Office would not comment.
