Press deputy editor and award-winning journalist
Cate Brett has been appointed editor of the Sunday Star-Times.
Ms Brett will take up the job in November.
"I'm delighted to welcome Cate as the new editor of the
Star-Times," said Terry Quinn, publisher of Fairfax Sunday Newspapers.
"Her great experience in quality journalism will be invaluable as we
continue to develop and improve New Zealand's only national broadsheet
newspaper."
Ms Brett has been with The Press since 1999 and has been editor of The
Weekend Press since it was launched last year. Before that she was a senior
writer on North & South magazine for seven years. A graduate of
Canterbury University, Ms Brett began her journalism career at the
Christchurch Star in 1987.
Ms Brett said the Sunday Star-Times had a talented team of journalists:
"I relish the chance of making this paper an essential part of New
Zealanders' Sunday." Peter O'Hara, Fairfax New Zealand Ltd editor-in-
chief, said Ms Brett was a respected journalist who had contributed strongly
to the development of The Press and The Weekend Press.
