Ellis case under spotlight again
Parliament's Justice Committee begins its hearing to
see if Royal Commission of Inquiry is needed into Christchurch Civic Creche
case
Parliament's Justice Committee has begun its hearing to see if a Royal
Commission of Inquiry is needed into the Christchurch Civic Creche case.
The hearing is in response to a petition from prominent New Zealanders driven
by pro-Peter Ellis author Lynley Hood.
Today, Ms Hood has likened the Peter Ellis case to that of the wrongful IRA
bombing convictions of the Birmingham Six and the Lindy Chamberlain case in Australia.
She says the Ellis case is also a top-to-bottom failure of the justice
system.

Submissions on Ellis case
Cases for and against Royal Commission of Inquiry
into Peter Ellis case to be made in Parliament today from petition backers
The cases for and against a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Peter Ellis
case are to be made in Parliament today.
The Justice and Electoral Committee is to hear submissions from the backers
of a petition, who are asking for the handling of the Civic Creche
investigation to be looked at.
That investigation resulted in sex abuse convictions for Ellis.
Petition organiser and author Lynley Hood will make a submission to the
committee, as will a representative from the Ministry of Justice.
The committee will then make a decision on what future processes should be
made in regard to a Royal Commission.
