Sunday Star Times The Canterbury rich lister accused
of rape and sodomy is likely to be sentenced to only a few years in prison, a
legal expert says. Peter Stewart, 62, will be sentenced on Tuesday, after
being convicted in December of rape and sodomy committed more than 30 years
ago against an under-16-year-old. Stewart has maintained the victim was over
16 when they had consensual sex. Auckland University law professor Bill Hodge
said the starting point for rape and sodomy was 20 years, but "I would
say in this case .... it will certainly be less than 10 years. I would be
expecting three years." |
