Newstalk ZB Christchurch businessman Peter
Stewart is to appeal his child sex conviction. In December, the 63-year-old
was found guilty on seven historical sex offences including sodomy and rape of
a girl aged under 16 years. They involved a single
complainant, the offences dating back to the sixties and seventies. Last
month, he was sentenced to three and a half years in jail. This morning Stewart's family
confirmed he is appealing the conviction. Stewart has hired QC Paul Davidson
to lead his appeal, along with top Christchurch lawyer Jonathan Eaton. The family say they are united and
resolute in their belief in Stewart's innocence. |
