Name suppression extended for ex-League star charged with sex offences
NZPA

A former test rugby league player today had name suppression extended until a hearing on the issue next week.

The former Kiwis player faces three sexual violation charges, including rape, arising from alleged offences on June 15.

Interim name suppression had been to expire tomorrow.

But defence counsel Gary Gotlieb told Auckland District Court this morning that there were compelling reasons for it to be continued.

He said he had presented a detailed submission to the court and he intended to call witnesses to give evidence.

The hearing over whether the former Kiwi should get continued name suppression was set down for next Tuesday and was expected to take half a day.
