Former Rugby League star appears in court on three sex charges

A court hearing next week will determine whether the identity of a former rugby league star accused of rape, will remain secret.

The man, who has name suppression, was charged with the three counts of sexual violation, including rape after the alleged offences in June.

The former Kiwi and Warriors player was supported by family members as he made a second appearance at the Auckland District Court today.

An interim name suppression order that had been due to expire tomorrow, was continued, as the man's lawyer, Gary Gotlieb told the court there were compelling reasons for the identity of the star to be kept hidden.

That matter will be debated at a half day name suppression hearing on Tuesday.
