Name suppression continues for ex-league player
NZPA

A former test rugby league player accused of rape had name suppression extended today until a hearing on the issue next week.

The defendant faces three sexual violation charges, including rape, arising from alleged offences on June 15.

Interim name suppression had been to expire tomorrow.

But defence counsel Gary Gotlieb told Auckland District Court this morning that there were compelling reasons for it to be continued.

He said he had presented a detailed submission to the court and he intended to call witnesses to give evidence.

The hearing over whether the former Kiwis player should get continued name suppression was set down for next Tuesday and was expected to take half a day.
