The Crown says a former Far North
constable handcuffed a woman and raped her at a police station, despite the
victim's repeated protests. The accused, who has name
suppression, is on trial at Auckland District Court facing eight charges
including four of rape in relation to an incident in 1988. In her opening address, Crown
Prosecutor Clare Bennett said the complainant, who was 44 at the time, was
dropping the police officer home when he asked to stop at the police station. She says the officer handcuffed the
victim without warning and told her he was going to have sex with her. Ms Bennett says the victim
repeatedly asked the accused to stop. The defence says the sex was
consensual.
