Complainant in case involving former policeman cross examined

A woman accusing a former police officer of raping her nearly 20 years ago has been grilled about an affair she had with a married man.

The ex-Far North constable is on trial at the Auckland District Court facing eight charges, including four of rape -- charges he denies.

Under cross examination the 63 year old complainant was asked about an affair she had with a man prior to the alleged rape in 1988.

She admitted smoking marijuana with the married man and having consensual sex with him.

But she denied a defence assertion that the rape allegation provided a good opportunity to get out of an embarrassing situation with her boyfriend
