The wife of a former Far North
police officer wept openly as her husband was acquitted of raping and
assaulting a woman 18 years ago. Timothy Ogle has been found not
guilty by an Auckland District Court jury on seven charges, including rape,
assault and unlawful sexual connection. A woman alleged he lured her back
to the police station where he worked in 1988, tricking her out of her car by
saying she had faulty headlights, then handcuffing and raping her. He argued
the sex was consensual. Mr Ogle expressed his relief
outside the court, saying it has haunted him for 16 years and slanderous
media allegations against him have been put to rest, although he says the new
trial has wreaked havoc on his family. His wife Kerry Ogle says she knew
her husband was innocent, and is now very happy.
