A former policeman accused of rape
18 years ago was finally cleared on Thursday. Tim Ogle admitted having sex with the
woman, who has name suppression, and endured three failed rape investigations
into a case that resurfaced during the Commission of Inquiry into police
conduct. Ogle was a Kaitaia constable in
1988 when he was accused of handcuffing and raping a woman that he met at a
pub. "What I did morally 18, 19 years ago while I was married to my
first wife was totally morally wrong, but one silly night and it's cost me 19
years of my life," he says. Despite two investigations no
charges were laid. However Louise Nicholas' very
public rape allegations were a case that changed that, prompting a Commission
of Inquiry to re-open Ogle's case two years ago. |
