Woman admits drug-rape claim invented

A Tauranga woman lied to police that she had been raped and then made a false ACC claim, the Tauranga District Court was told yesterday.

Midway through a defended hearing, Amanda Lee Brennan, aged 19, changed her plea to guilty on charges of making a false statement to police of an offence and using a document to make a false ACC claim.

Judge Ian Thomas said it was clear that Brennan had dreamed up the rape.

He remanded her on bail until February 19 for sentencing, ordering a presentence report and psychological assessment.

Brennan, a mother, had told police she thought she had been drugged and raped after a night out last April.

She claimed she woke up in business premises wearing only a bra, and that two men were lying nearby.
