Teen wasn't pack-raped, say police
An alleged pack-rape of a 16-year-old girl in a central
Wellington alleyway at the weekend never happened, say police.
Detective Ian McMeeking said today police were no
longer investigating the pack-rape, alleged to have occurred about 1.15am on
Sunday, as the girl walked along a path connecting Allenby Tce with Willis
St.
Mr McMeeking said police had established that the
attack had not happened as reported.
He said the complaint had been made due to a
"traumatic personal event" immediately prior, and police were
satisfied the girl had not acted in a vindictive or obstructive manner. Mr
McMeeking would not comment on the nature of the traumatic personal event. He
said no charges would be laid.
The girl's father told The Evening Post today that
police and medical authorities had confirmed to him his daughter had suffered
sexual injuries in an incident early on Sunday morning.
The girl originally told police a group of four or
five young men pursued her then raped her in Flagstaff Hill Lane, which runs
off Willis St next to Willis St Village.
Police investigated, and several members of the
public came forward with information. Mr McMeeking thanked everyone who
assisted police.
