Police seeking leads in rape case
by Glenn Mclean

New Plymouth police are trying to locate a taxi driver who drove an alleged rape victim to her friend's house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Kawana said police were still trying to piece together information on the attack, which happened about 4am in Victor Davies Park, just off Powderham St.

The 23-year-old victim managed to get to the BP Powderham service station and hail a a taxi before she called the police.

Mr Kawana said police were still trying to find the driver yesterday. Police had received several calls from members of the public about the incident.

"Things are still very sketchy though. All we know is that we think we are looking for two offenders, and they are probably younger guys."

The only description police had of the offenders was that they were possibly in their early twenties, with one slightly taller than the other.

Police were still appealing for sightings of the victim around 4am. She was wearing all white clothing, but would have been muddy and upset, said Mr Kawana.
