Camera footage focus of rape investigation

Police in Hastings will continue to look at footage from surveillance cameras on Monday as they investigate the rape of a young girl.

They say the 12-year-old was walking home from a youth event in the city and became separated from her friends.

Police say she stopped in the grounds of Ebbett Park Primary School, where she was attacked and raped sometime between 11pm on Saturday and 2am on Sunday.

Constable Lisa Tod says it is possible that the attacker was at the same event. Police are checking surveillance camera tapes in Hastings to see if she was followed.

Ms Tod says police believe the attacker may have been a teenager.
