Police have good description of rapist

Police in Hastings say they have a good description of a man who raped a girl at a local primary school.

The 12-year-old was walking home from a dance late on Saturday night when she became separated from her friends.

Constable Lisa Todd says the girl was attacked in the grounds of Ebbett Park Primary School.

Ms Todd says the girl received medical treatment for minor injuries and is resting at home.

She says the girl has described her attacker as having shaggy shoulder-length hair with a rat's tail and wearing a white shirt.

Police are checking council surveillance camera tapes in the central business district to see if she was followed and believe the attacker may have been a teenager.

Ms Todd says it is possible the attacker was at the same event.
