Rapes may be 'nightmare'

A woman who has accused a man of kidnapping and multiple rapes now says she may have had a nightmare, the man's defence lawyer has told the New Plymouth District Court.

Gabriel Lee Walden (27) is facing 11 charges including kidnapping, four rapes, two of unlawful sexual connection and two of threatening to kill. On Thursday, his lawyer, Kylie Pascoe, said the credibility of the complainant was under doubt. New information had come to light in a letter in which the complainant said she might have dreamt the whole ordeal, Ms Pascoe said.

Judge Allan Roberts remanded Walden in custody to April 7 for a further hearing when an electronic bail application will be made.

Walden was kissed and hugged by a young woman holding a baby as he was returned to prison.
