Barefoot sex attacker still evading police
NZPA

Police are still no closer to finding a Northland barefoot sex attacker with an American accent despite a good response from the public.

A 27-year-old English tourist was sexually violated after being dragged off a Bay of Islands footpath while walking between the Waitangi Treaty House grounds and Haruru Falls on March 26.

The attack left the victim traumatised and sickened local residents, bringing back memories of the vicious sex attack on Dutch honeymooners at the falls in 2006.

Whangarei police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett told NZPA today police were still following up information from the public in their hunt for the attacker.

He was described as in his mid- to late-30s with dark brown hair. He wore a large ring on his right hand, blue jeans and a navy blue shirt with a white circular pattern on the front.

He was barefoot, carried a full backpack, and spoke with an American accent.
