Advocates for victims
of sexual crime want the government to set up a taskforce to review how the
legal system treats victims. The call follows a
march on Sunday through central Auckland to mark Rape Awareness Week. Auckland Rape Crisis
director Dr Kim McGregor says a proposal is being drawn up on improving the
legal system in relation to sex crimes. Under the current
regime, McGregor says women do not always get taken seriously or have their
case approached in a humanitarian way through the courts. Several human rights
lawyers agree, saying it is time to make it easier for victims of sexual
violence to have their say in court.
