"We have tried negotiating with Presbyterian Church in many many ways and Presbyterian Support as well and they refuse to talk to us and they do not acknowledge the victims and their cries."

Alleged sexual abuse at a Wellington orphanage 40 years ago has been the focus of an angry demonstration.

Protesters rallied outside Presbyterian Support Services in the capital on Tuesday, demanding formal recognition of their claims.

They say at least seven former residents of Berhampore children's home were abused in the 1960's by the then head of social services, Walter Lake.

Presbyterian Support describes the protest as "intimidatory", and says there's a formal process the complainants should follow.

A police investigation into the claims ended late last year, when Walter Lake died.
