Ex-brother on sex charges

A former Catholic brother living in Upper Hutt has been arrested and charged with committing repeated sexual indecencies on a boy at a Feilding boarding school 20 years ago.

The allegations relate to several incidents over an 18-month period around 1984 at Hato Paora Maori boys' Catholic school.

The 67-year-old man, who is no longer at the school, is to appear in Upper Hutt District Court on Friday, Detective Constable John Fagan said yesterday.

Mr Fagan said the complainant, who was 15 years old at the time of the alleged assaults, came forward at the end of last year.

Feilding police carried out the investigation, he said.

Police want to speak to people who attended the school in 1984 and who may have information that could help with the investigation.
