New arrest over abuse at school

A retired Catholic brother has been charged with sexually abusing boys at a Maori secondary school.

The Wellington man, 66, is the second former worker at Hato Paora, a Catholic Maori secondary school at Feilding, to be charged with sexual abuse.

His offences date to the 1970s and 1980s.

Detective Chris Webster, of Lower Hutt, said the man was arrested on Monday following a

six-month investigation. He will appear in Lower Hutt District Court today.

Police were keen to speak to anyone who had information on sexual abuse at the school.

This followed an earlier investigation into

Andrew Cody, 67, who was sentenced in August to 2-1/2 years' jail for sexually abusing pupils at the school between 1981 and 1984.

Cody, of Upper Hutt, was an administration worker at the school who sexually abused sick boys sent to the infirmary.
