Bail has been granted to a retired Catholic clergyman
charged with sexually assaulting teenage boys. John Stevenson appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court
this morning. He has been charged with six counts of indecent assault
and one of inducing a boy to do an indecent act. The offences are alleged to have happened in the late
1970s and early 1980s while he was a teacher at Hato Paora College in
Feilding. The victims were aged between 14 and 16 at the time. No application for name suppression was made and no pleas
were entered. He will reappear in court next month. |
