The jury in the High
Court trial of a former religious brother accused of sexual abuse has retired
this afternoon. Bernard McGrath is facing
44 charges of abusing boys during his time at the former Marylands school in
the 1970s. While summing up,
Justice Chisholm reminded the jury of some disparities highlighted by the
defence between the time some of the complainants say they were abused and
when the 58-year-old stopped teaching. He also said the
defence agrees that some complainants were abused but argues that the
perpetrator is not McGrath. |
