Jury deadlocked after 30 hours

Jury deliberations have come to a standstill at the High Court trial in Christchurch of former religious brother Bernard McGrath

He faces 44 charges regarding alleged historical sex abuse offences dating back to the 1970s at the St John of God School in Marylands.

After 30 hours of deliberations the jury has come back to ask Justice Chisholm what would happen if they fail to reach verdicts on all the charges.

Justice Chisholm told them they have to be satisfied with their decisions, but if they cannot unanimously agree they must deliver verdicts on charges they agree on.
