The Male Survivors of Sexual
Abuse Trust wants an inquiry into the abuse of boys by religious orders from
the 1950s. On Thursday night
former Catholic brother Bernard McGrath, 58, was found guilty on 21 charges
of sexually abusing boys at a Christchurch school in the 1970s. The jury was told
McGrath was convicted of similar charges in 1993. Ken Clearwater from the
trust says he is working with other men who claim they were abused while in
the care of other religious groups between 1950 and 1980. He says the government
should hold an inquiry into why it was allowed to continue for so long. |
