Police not commenting on officer's future

Police are not yet commenting on the future of an officer found guilty of assaulting a student.

An Auckland jury has convicted North Shore constable Richard Hall of repeatedly punching Hayden Seath in the back of a patrol car four-and-a-half years ago.

Constable Hall was cleared of assaulting the man in the car park of an Albany pub earlier on the same night.

Another officer, Geoffrey Wharton, was cleared of four charges of assaulting the student.

However the jury was hung on a fifth charge against Wharton.

North Shore-Waitakere police bosses say they cannot make any comment at this stage, as the matter is still before the courts.
