$10,000 after man loses testicle
NZPA - A man who lost his left testicle after police kicked him between the
legs during an arrest has been awarded $10,000 in damages. The decision,
given by Judge Josephine Bouchier in Auckland District Court, went against
four South Auckland policemen involved in arresting the man in August 2000.

Disgraced South Auckland police officer Anthony Solomona will this week
testify in the trial of four former colleagues facing civil action by a man
who claims he was roughed up during an arrest.

into an alleged assault at its privately owned bar. An inquiry was launched
more than a month ago when the un-named officer allegedly used a sleeper hold

Jury kept in dark in police beating case
A case involving a Porirua teenager might have turned out differently if the
jury had watched a video, writes Deborah Morris…… If the medical evidence had
been available, the jury would have heard that Maululu may have had
concussion that could have affected his recall of events. The jurors may have made the right decision
for the evidence they heard ... but they were kept in the dark and never
heard the full story. It would be interesting to know if their decision would
change had they heard everything.

An Auckland police officer convicted of assaulting a
handcuffed man could remain on the beat……. In sentencing the judge said it
was not inevitable that Hall should lose his job. That is now subject to an
internal police inquiry.

Policeman fined for assaulting student
by Tony Stickley - A constable who was convicted of assaulting a student in
the pack of a police car has today been fined $2750. Judge Fred McElrea in
the Auckland District Court also ordered Gregory Richard Hall to pay $130 court
costs. Hall was found guilty in May of the November 2000 assault on Hayden
Graham Seath in the rear of a police car after Mr Seath was arrested
following an incident in the Bull and Gate car park in Albany.

A Wellington police constable has been cleared of charges of intimidation and
insulting language made against him by a Porirua teenager. Wellington
District Court judge Avinash Deobhakta said yesterday he had no reason not to
believe the word of the constable, who had denied the charges.

A young woman who sought help from the police but found herself on the
receiving end of some rough justice is still waiting for someone to be
punished for the brutal attack. Rebecca Gerrard claims police beat her up and
walked away, leaving her bloodied and broken. Two years on, the police have
apologised and paid her out

NZPA - The officer, whose name has been suppressed, pleaded not guilty to the
charge after a depositions hearing in Blenheim District Court on Monday and

Police are not yet commenting on the future of an officer found guilty of
assaulting a student. An Auckland jury has convicted North Shore constable
Richard Hall of repeatedly punching Hayden Seath in the back of a patrol car
four-and-a-half years ago. Constable Hall was cleared of assaulting the man
in the car park of an Albany pub earlier on the same night.

A police officer has been found guilty of assaulting a student in the
back of a police car. Constable Gregory Hall has been on trial at the
Auckland District Court with another officer Chris Wharton on six assault
charges. Both officers were accused of assaulting student Hayden Seath during
an arrest in 2000 when they came upon him urinating in a carpark of a North
Shore hotel. The Crown alleged there was a scuffle in the carpark in which
Seath went down to the ground and the two officers punched Seath repeatedly.
He was then punched by Hall in the back of the patrol car on the way to the
police station. Hall was found guilty of the assault in the back of the car.

A young police constable's career was in tatters after a jury today found him
guilty of assault. Gregory Richard Hall was convicted by the jury at the
Auckland District Court of assaulting student Hayden Graham Seath in the back
of a police car at Albany in November 2000. However, he was cleared of
assaulting Mr Seath earlier in the carpark of the Bull and Gate pub in Albany

Two police officers charged with assaulting a man during an arrest acted
lawfully in the exercise of their duty, a defence lawyer told an Auckland
District Court jury yesterday. Richard Earwaker represents Gregory Richard
Hall, who faces two charges of assaulting Hayden Seath, 27, in the carpark of
the Bull and Gate tavern in Albany and also in a police car on the way to
Takapuna police station in November 2000. His colleague, Christopher Geoffrey
James Wharton, denies five assault charges, including three in an interview
at the police station.

police officers have gone on trial, accused of assaulting a student during an
arrest 4 1/2 years ago. Constable Gregory Richard Hall and Constable
Christopher Geoffrey James Wharton, both in their late 20s or early 30s, face
a joint charge of assaulting Hayden Graham Seath in the Bull and Gate Tavern
in Albany just after midnight on November 12, 2000.

Two Auckland policeman have gone on trial accused of beating up a student
after an altercation outside a North Shore pub. Constable Gregory Hall and
his partner Constable Christopher Wharton are alleged to have punched Hayden
Seath while he was on the ground, and again while cuffed in the patrol car. And
a jury was told one even put gloves on before another attack back at the
station on the North Shore.

Senior cop guilty of assault

in doubt after he was found guilty of roughing up a 14-year-old boy in the
station's cells. The Napier District Court heard that Senior Sergeant Bruce
Greathead pulled the "lippy" boy down a corridor by his hair,
pushed him up against a wall by his throat and later threw him on to a seat.
Greathead was found guilty of assault after the defended hearing, but was
discharged without conviction by Judge Gregory Ross, who said the assault was
at the lower end of the scale

Policeman faces new inquiry
by David Eames - Disgraced South Auckland police officer Anthony Solomona
could face further internal disciplinary charges after he was convicted
yesterday of assaulting a 17-year-old youth. After sentencing yesterday,
Detective Inspector Keith Brady, of police professional standards, said he
would now recommend to Police Commissioner Rob Robinson that a police
tribunal hear the charges.

Policeman convicted of assault
The career of South Auckland police officer Anthony Solomona could be over
after he was convicted of assaulting a teenager. The senior sergeant was
convicted and discharged in the Manukau District Court on Thursday and
ordered to pay reparation of $1200 to the victim. The Police Commissioner and
an internal employment tribunal will now decide Solomona's future with the
police. His actions have also sparked an inquiry into what has been labelled
a "sick" culture in the South Auckland police

Anthony Solomona appeared in Manukau District Court today after earlier being
found guilty of assaulting the youth in the forecourt of a Manurewa service
station in February last year. Internal police disciplinary charges were also
laid against him but held until the result of the criminal charges was known.

Brothers claim assault by police officer

Claims of police brutality have been made by two brothers who were allegedly
attacked while lying handcuffed and defenceless in Cathedral Square. Elton
James said in the Christchurch District Court that he had three teeth kicked
out by a police officer after he was arrested at the end of a drunken night
out celebrating the All Blacks' last-minute win over the Springboks at Jade
Stadium last July.
