Solomona to testify in trial of police officers

Disgraced South Auckland police officer Anthony Solomona will this week testify in the trial of four former colleagues facing civil action by a man who claims he was roughed up during an arrest.

Paul Pure says police used excessive force and is seeking damages, but his lawyer Jeremy Sutton refused to reveal the amount. The case will be heard in the Auckland District Court from tomorrow.

Solomona's lawyer, John Haigh QC, said Solomona had been summonsed to give evidence and his only involvement was as the watch house keeper on the day in question.

Solomona was convicted in April of assaulting a 17-year-old man last year and the case led to an investigation of what the judge called a sick culture in the Counties-Manukau police force.
