Attorney-General
Margaret Wilson has indicated to former psychiatric patients with abuse
claims that she is willing to consider negotiated settlements if they want to
avoid going through the courts. The claims in question
largely relate to those from former Porirua Hospital patients. Nearly 70 historical
abuse claims have been laid and a further 300 people are considering filing
them. "We believe there
is much merit in exploring ideas that allow claimants and the Government to
resolve these claims other than through litigation," she said yesterday. |
