More scrutiny of Mental Health sector needed - foundation

The Mental Health Foundation says rigorous monitoring of the mental health sector must continue, following a report into psychiatric care.

A Confidential Forum group report into the experiences of former patients at psychiatric hospitals until late 1992, was issued yesterday.

Mental Health Foundation chief executive Judi Clements, says the report was a reminder of the problems caused by large-scale institutions.

She says people still report negative experiences of the mental health system so there needs to be continued scrutiny of its services.

She says care needs to be taken that small institutions don't develop within community care
