An advocate for psychiatric
patients wants the Government to start talking compensation, in the wake of a
critical report into the old mental health system. A confidential forum reported back
yesterday, after hearing from former patients, families and staff involved in
state-run institutions between 1940 and 1992. They described a culture of
violence and sexual abuse. The Health Minister says the issue
of apologies and compensation is far from decided. Advocate Anna de Jonge says that
is not good enough and believes the Government is dragging its feet on
compensation
