Allegations
of Abuse in Institutions |
|
Edward Duffill
(Letters, August 20) shows a vast amount of misunderstanding. If he was truly
concerned about family values he would realise that religion has long had the
monopoly on destroying them. Last year, we heard of Catholic priests abusing
children, and millions being paid out as "hush money" and
compensation. Now, we hear about the
Salvation Army in Australia and the abuse of children over there. If child
abuse does not destroy families, then Mr Duffill is wearing blinkers. What is it that gave
these abusers power over children so the abusers could abuse them? Religion. Religion -- what
amounts to fairy stories -- should not be given the predominance in society
that it is as it is the source of so many of society's ills. |
