The man who killed Waiouru
army cadet Grant Bain fell to his death in a West Coast forestry accident six
years ago. Andrew William Read was
killed at Charleston Forest, near Westport, when he fell down a limestone
tomo, or hole, according to the Westport coroner's file held by the Justice
Ministry in Wellington. Read, who was employed
as a forestry worker, was felling rimu trees on a ridge in the forest when he
died. He plunged about 15
metres head-first into the hole, with his head hitting rock, when the tree he
was cutting did not fall where it was supposed to. Read was 35 years old
when he died in October 1998. |
