Inquiry promise over Waiouru claims

The Defence Minister is assuring former army cadets who are alleging they were abused more than 25 years ago that they will be given an independent inquiry.

Dozens of former cadets at the Army's Waiouru Cadet School say they were sexually and physically abused during in a period between the 1960s and 1980s.

Defence Minister Mark Burton says he has consulted with the Attorney General and is now bringing together advice from other agencies who will investigate the issues raised.

He says those who have concerns need to come forward, so as to define the scope of an investigation.
