Gymnastics New Zealand is asking
people to register before using cameras at this week's National
Championships. The chief executive of the
organisation Jack Ralston says the rule was introduced two years ago
following a directive from the Federation of International Gymnastics in
order to keep young competitors safe. Some have labelled the rule as
over-cautious. But Mr Ralston says there have
been no complaints from any parents, as most agree that it is important to
ensure the children are not exploited by inappropriate photography. More than 700 gymnasts are
competing in the championships in Christchurch from Wednesday |
