Church helpline for abused

With calls reporting sex abuse flooding in, the Catholic Church has set up an 0800 helpline number to streamline the process and direct callers to the appropriate diocese or religious order.

Catholic communications director Lyndsay Freer said a central point of contact was needed to ensure complaints were directed to the appropriate place.

The National Catholic Helpline would be answered during office hours or callers could leave a message.

The phone number is 0800 111 515.
